Take back control by releasing the inner critic. Although it feels as if the inner critic is part of you, it is not. Having awareness of this is the first step toward separating yourself from the critical voice.

Decide where to place your focus. Release the negative in order to experience the positive. Consider your goals for being a winner, notice the activities you are doing well. Become aware of your strengths. Choose the next step to move you closer to your vision, excelling toward peak performance.

Creating goals to be the prophecy of what you will one day become

Instead of allowing your memories to impact your commitment to your goal, shift your focus. You are capable of prophesying your goals for business success.

1.      Identify your goal, your BIG vision and your dream.

2.      Create your mind movie. Envision yourself living, acting, being, doing and feeling once you reached your big goal. How would you be different?

3.      Create an affirmation of where you want to be in the present tense, as if it has already happened i.e. I am a confident, success million dollar entrepreneur.

4.      Write a goal card. Make it as descriptive as possible and in the present tense, as if it has already happened. When you read it, you want to be able to feel the emotion of the moment. Read it each morning before getting out of bed and before going to sleep at night. This is when you are closest to your alpha states, imprinting your goal into your subconscious.

5.      List all the ways you would act differently once you reach your goal. How would you operate your business differently, would your confidence change, would your lifestyle change?

6.      Which of those things can you begin doing now?

7.      Begin thinking about yourself as a successful business owner. This will shift your energy; your brain will change on a cellular level. Subconsciously you will begin looking for opportunities to help you reach your goal at a faster rate. Opportunities will begin to appear.

Thoughts become things. Choose to release yourself from the struggle, your resistance. Think like a successful entrepreneur. It changes your brain chemistry. Accelerate your progress based upon your focus. Your thoughts and actions becoming aligned with your goals is powerful.

Activity: List all the things which would be different once you achieve your business goal. Which of those things could you begin to do right now? Take the action steps to make that happen. Write a goal card on the new action steps you are taking, what they mean to your business and the results you will experience by taking action.

Well that is how my trip to New York began. Steve and I were at the airport to go to New York this week. We were really excited about going to my mastermind meeting, we always walk away with so many amazing new ideas for my business which were way bigger than what I could have envisioned on my own.

This was the situation. Steve got his airline tickets after me. we were flying out of the same airport and meeting up in New York but ticketed on different routes.

At the last minute they announced my flight was overbooked by one seat and asked for volunteers to give up a ticket. I went to the counter, explained the situation with my husband going to New York on a different route than me.

The ticket agent looked at his second flight and said no seats were available. I asked her to look again. She gave me a questioning look, but did so. And guess what, she found one seat remaining on his flight.

His plane was already boarding and she quickly rebooked my ticket. I was so happy.

On board the first flight I was able to exchange seats with someone so Steve and I could sit together.

For the second flight I asked the woman sitting next to Steve if she would trade her middle seat for my aisle seat further back. She said “no” her husband was on board and she wasn’t able to sit with him either. Yes, those were her exact words.

So I walked to my seat and settled in. A couple minutes later she came back and said she would trade with me. I told her how much I appreciated her offer and we exchanged seats.

As Steve and I were talking he told me he believed we were somehow going to be able to fly together. I was awed at how quickly Steve set an intention and then the universe rearranged itself to make it happen.

By consciously stating an intention and fully believing it is possible, it does work out. Once you state your intention and let go of the outcome, it happens quickly. What you ask for will be given to you in the form of an opportunity. When the opportunity arrives, your responsibility is to say “yes” taking quick decisive action.

If you believe it can happen, then it can.

When you don’t fill a program or get a new client signed on how do you deal with it? Are you blaming the economy or too much competition? Or do you look at what you could do differently to convey the value of working with you?

Pointing fingers at everyone else but yourself will not make a difference in your success. You have absolutely no control over anything, or anyone, outside of yourself.  Blaming does not change anything. It only diminishes your power. If you knew how much your mindset affects your success would you continue to blame others, focusing on all their faults?

Successful entrepreneurs take personal responsibility. Your actions, thoughts and feelings affect your results. Self control is powerful. It takes more confidence to walk away from a fight than to get into one.

Clear focus separates the successes from everyone else.

Empowerment

Not taking ownership for your actions is a passive stance. Passive entrepreneurs harbor resentments and place blame on everything, and everyone, else but themselves. Having an external locus of control reinforces the belief that they cannot affect the outcome.

Empower yourself; you have choices. Ownership about your actions uplevels your commitment to your goals. Of course there will be times when you will follow leaders in the field. Only you, however, can take personal responsibility for your actions. Observe your role models. How do they play an active role with their business, actions and outcomes?

When you are told to do something and you know it is not right for you, then speak up when it is appropriate. Timing is everything. You might not want to argue with your loved one who says they support you but continue to encourage you to play small, avoiding any risks. You can, however, speak with your coach for a reality check and honest feedback.

At all cost, avoid blame or criticism. Complaining does not help. It is passive, weakening your power. Instead take to heart all feedback you receive. Identify the underlying implication, to determine if this is something you ought to look into further or to let go. Look for the solutions. This is empowering.

Believing you have a choice is called having an internal locus of control. You control all variables in regards to your success. Granted, things occur which are out of your control. Empower yourself by realizing you have a choice about how you want to act, or react, at any given time.

Release yourself from the doubt, fear and worry which holds you back from playing full-out in your business. Strengthening your internal locus of control increases your sense of empowerment. You take ownership for the outcome. It is the difference between being a passive business owner and an engaged, successful entrepreneur. Positive self talk, boundaries and taking responsibility impacts your success.

Self Talk

Everybody does self-talk. We give ourselves messages all the time. Become aware of what you are telling yourself, particularly when stressed or dissatisfied with your progress. Is your message blaming or looking for solutions? It is possible the things you say to yourself are not even your words but something you heard repeatedly when you were younger.

These phrases are limiting and self criticizing.

“I should”

“I have to”.

“I ought to”

“I need to”

Replace these phrases with

“I would like to”

“I hope to”

“I choose to.”

They are empowering, reinforcing your ability to choose. How you talk to yourself all day long affects you more than you realize. Think of what you say to yourself when no one is around. Are you beating yourself up, not even realizing it? If you spoke to a child the way you talk to yourself, would you be accused of emotional abuse? How would your energy be different if you never criticized yourself? This one change would have an incredibly powerful impact on your energy with powerful results in your performance. Choose how you want to respond at any given moment.

Change is necessary if you want your business to be successful. Consider replacing the word “deserving” with “choice.” When you have a choice you become empowered. The restrictions are lifted. Having a choice creates infinite possibilities. Having a choice is expansive.

When you choose to do something, you become empowered. The limitations, restrictive rules and fears are eliminated.  You do not need to have approval from others when you choose your focus and priorities. You are taking responsibility for yourself and your actions.

Choice allows you to freely build you business based upon being of service to others. With choice you also create the opportunity to set boundaries and take care of yourself. Look at how you are operating your practice. Consider which changes might need to happen in order to build your business based upon a healthy, functional dynamic. Choose how you want to set the tone for your practice.

Create boundaries, self care and stepping up to opportunities for growth. Choose to do what you know works. Listen to what resonates within you. Choose to find a way to bring what you’re dreams are into your business.

Having a healthy approach to business will free up your energy as you take the steps to grow your practice. Imagine how this would change the way you do business. Envision how a potential client might become more attracted to you because you are operating your business from a place of service based upon a model of self care, clear boundaries and healthy modeling. That sounds very client attractive.

Take your practice in the direction of your dreams. Decide what you choose to change. Practice the technique of Appreciative Inquiry. This approach is based on positive change, focusing on recognition and appreciation. You focus on what you and your business are doing well, strengths, successes, values and goals. Consider these two main questions: 1) What is going well and 2) What do you want more of? When you explore the options from this perspective, you are focusing on positive change and choosing a strengths-based approach to grow your business with confidence.

Activity: Begin to explore the rules or restrictions you have in reference to deserving. Brainstorm. List everything which comes to mind. As you do so you will begin to peel away the layers and expose the underlying beliefs. These core underlying beliefs contribute to your perception about what you deserve, what you feel worthy of and what your “rights” include.

Share what you have been able to turn around. The stories about overcoming obstacles is inspiring. You have the ability to positively impact others.

Deserving is an interesting concept. For some it is seen as a right and something positive. Others view it as a negative and feel guilt. When you think about deserving what are some of the thoughts you have? Do you deserve to carve out the time to grow your business? Do you deserve success?

Deserving and feeling worthy go hand in hand. They are partners. Many times people are unable to achieve long lasting success because they do not feel they earned the right. Yes! That is right. Deserving something like success can be viewed as a right.

Typically when something is a “right” then there are rules and restrictions in reference to it. As much as people claim they love their freedom, we also tend to be creatures of habit. We create beliefs and rules. Beliefs and rules can be comforting. They help to make sense of the world. You know what to expect.

There are two types of rules. One set of rules is for when you are going to do something. It is based upon allowing or giving permission. For example, at the end of the day you deserve to sit down and relax. Another set of rules is when you will not do something. This is a restriction. You will not hire an assistant to help because you feel you ought to be doing it all yourself.

When deserving, worthiness and rights are based upon negative rules, you are living life from a restrictive place. Your perception, beliefs and thoughts all focus on restriction and what you cannot do. This can be extremely stressful because the focus is to avoid breaking a rule.

On the other hand, you have the ability to reframe anything you want. Just because you have always done things a certain way does not mean you cannot change. It is so much easier to move toward a goal or challenge than it is to avoid a problem. This is similar to having an offensive or defensive way of approaching your business.

Are you ready to take your business to the next level of success? You realize, however, there is a gap between where you are and where you would like your business to be. Doubt and overwhelm prevent you from taking strategic steps toward growth. The underlying fears prevent your business from growing. When there is a struggle on the outside, then there is also a struggle on the inside. When your mindset is set for success, opportunities appear. You know you have what it takes. First of all I am sending blessings to all of you for a healthy, sweet and prosperous New Year. This week celebrates Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

When I cut my hair, I took home a lock from the first snip. The intention was to find something I was ready to release and then to place that energy into the hair and let it go. The suggestion from my stylist was to bury it.

I have been holding onto it for all this time, knowing that Rosh Hashanah was coming up. During the holiday there is a ritual called Tashlich. Tashlich is about placing energy of something you are ready to release into bread crumbs or a stone and then casting that into flowing water.

Water is powerful, symbolizing cleansing, renewal and the ever changing flow of energy.

Yesterday, Steve and I took a walk over to the creek in Lithia park. Tashlich. The time was now.

We found the right spot in the park. It wasn’t where I thought it was going to be. Interesting how that happens. Now was the time to “let go.” I was ready.

I held my lock of hair in the palms of my hand. My thoughts focused on the things which have been holding me back these past several months. That energy flowed into my hair.

“I am ready to release any resistance, whether known or unknown to me, which might be preventing me from fully connecting with my purpose…”

Then I let it go. Two interesting things happened at that exact moment. Although my phone didn’t ring, it vibrated once that I had a message in voice mail (gotta love technology). The lock of hair ended up falling behind a stone in the water. I didn’t notice the stone when I let my hair go.

All I could do was trust that the current would help to gradually move the lock past the obstacle which was blocking it from freely flowing down the creek. Awareness of my blocked energy was mirrored in this moment.

It was already out of my power as soon as I let it go. There was nothing I could do to change it’s path. Instead I trusted the power of the current, my universe, would eventually wash it away downstream when the time was right.

I walked away trusting it would be set free when the moment was right. My work was done.
