YOU can release YOUR inner critic. Once you recognize this choice, you have created your opportunity for change. It might have always been there, but for whatever reasons, you were not able to see it up until now. Create your own opportunity for change.

Take back control by releasing the inner critic. Although it feels as if the inner critic is part of you, it is not. Having awareness of this is the first step toward separating yourself from the critical voice.

Decide where to place your focus. Release the negative in order to experience the positive. Consider your goals for being a winner, notice the activities you are doing well. Become aware of your strengths. Choose the next step to move you closer to your vision, excelling toward peak performance.

Creating goals to be the prophecy of what you will one day become

Instead of allowing your memories to impact your commitment to your goal, shift your focus. You are capable of prophesying your goals for business success.

1.      Identify your goal, your BIG vision and your dream.

2.      Create your mind movie. Envision yourself living, acting, being, doing and feeling once you reached your big goal. How would you be different?

3.      Create an affirmation of where you want to be in the present tense, as if it has already happened i.e. I am a confident, success million dollar entrepreneur.

4.      Write a goal card. Make it as descriptive as possible and in the present tense, as if it has already happened. When you read it, you want to be able to feel the emotion of the moment. Read it each morning before getting out of bed and before going to sleep at night. This is when you are closest to your alpha states, imprinting your goal into your subconscious.

5.      List all the ways you would act differently once you reach your goal. How would you operate your business differently, would your confidence change, would your lifestyle change?

6.      Which of those things can you begin doing now?

7.      Begin thinking about yourself as a successful business owner. This will shift your energy; your brain will change on a cellular level. Subconsciously you will begin looking for opportunities to help you reach your goal at a faster rate. Opportunities will begin to appear.

Thoughts become things. Choose to release yourself from the struggle, your resistance. Think like a successful entrepreneur. It changes your brain chemistry. Accelerate your progress based upon your focus. Your thoughts and actions becoming aligned with your goals is powerful.

Activity: List all the things which would be different once you achieve your business goal. Which of those things could you begin to do right now? Take the action steps to make that happen. Write a goal card on the new action steps you are taking, what they mean to your business and the results you will experience by taking action.

Your focus affects your outcome. There will come a point when self criticism does not help you anymore. Staying where you are will not be an option.

Negativity, being critical, slows down progress. You hold back, resisting change, draining your energy. Progress is difficult when you are giving so much energy to what you are not doing well.

Change is difficult when you are focusing on what you don’t want to do, what is not working for you and what you are not doing well. The shortcomings stand out sharply. Those criticisms continue to point out all of your flaws. Progress is difficult when you keep looking behind you. You are going against the flow, hindering your success.

This is like rafting on the river. Imagine being on the river. You put your raft in, deciding to go upstream. By going against the current, you spend a lot of energy resisting the natural flow of the river. It is tiring and exhausting. For the amount of effort you are exerting, you have little gain in return. On the other hand if you turn your raft around to go downstream with the natural current of the river, your raft flows easily with little effort.  You will begin taking steps toward reaching your peak performance.

Become more aware of the messages your critical voice, your inner critic, is telling you. The messages sound justified. But are they?

There is more than one way to look at any situation. Recognize those messages were someone else’s. You might have heard them frequently. Most likely someone you really wanted praise from, but never got. Choose to transform your inner critic, taking steps to reach your peak potential.

The inner critic is fearful. It feeds off of “False Evidence Appearing Real.” We know our flaws better than anyone else does. As far as being a star athlete, what are the fears which keep you stuck?

Make the choice to take a leap of faith to reach your peak performance level. Change can happen. You cannot change the fact you need to consistently train and compete to get to the top of your game, but you get to choose how you view your progress and performance. Once you begin changing your perception about being at the top of your game, being seen as a winner, the resistance to your excellence collapses.

This past week I was surrounded by entrepreneurs eager to learn about systems, creating leveraged income and setting up for the next level of success. Attending events with like-minded people is invigorating. Plus, it is good for business. You don’t have to be on stage speaking in order to be making sales at events.

A book was sent to each participant prior to the event. One of the topics struck a chord, the concept of tithing and spiritual food. Lisa Sasevich, the event host, elaborated on the concept. Spiritual food is receiving inspiration. As she began to tithe to people who fed her spiritual food, she noticed something changed. She began seeking spiritual food, consciously looking for inspiration.

Her reframe of spiritual food and tithing deeply resonated with me. Consider how things would be different by consciously seeking opportunities for inspiration. The focus on positive instead of negative messages each and every day would be significant. Seeking daily inspiration is rich.

As this month comes to a close I am approaching my birthday. This year’s cycle around the sun has embraced many new and wonderful changes. As I expanded my reach, the number of people who have touched my life has been exponential. There is so much to celebrate.

I have been inspired to make some bold changes.  My purpose is leading me in a new direction.  The time has come for a significant transition. As of next week, I will be fully engaged with Inner Game for Winning Athletes.

Change your history to match your goals

Most people do not periodically explore their beliefs to see if they ought to be updated. When something occurs triggering one of these beliefs it gets activated. Then you begin responding based upon a belief you created as a child. No wonder people have tantrums when things don’t work out as planned.

Allow me to digress for a moment. Humans are extremely adaptable being one of the reasons we survived as a species. We are flexible, evolving beings. Our innate powerful trait to adapt can be used to change something about our future or our past.

Detective work to distinguish between your belief and reality

It is possible to change your history. Of course, the actual events which occurred cannot be undone. The meaning you subscribed to those events, your interpretation of them, can be changed. You know things now which you didn’t know when you were younger. By changing the meaning around an event, you are changing your memory, your belief, your thoughts and your responses. This is powerful, impacting your business, relationships and your life.

While working with Toni, in one session, we changed her story around her childhood experience of the kickball games. We shifted her focus from the negative, being teased for her weight, to the positive. Tapping into her brain we positively altered the memory, creating a new mind movie.

Toni realized her personal commitment to become a leader. Toni reframed her after school days playing kickball realizing they were a major contributor to her vow to excel. Like all successful business owners, she continues to establish new goals, pushing herself, where most have given up a long time ago.

Changing Toni’s story significantly impacted her confidence when she begins to feel uncomfortable as she is working toward a new business goal. In addition to changing her perception from negative to positive, we created a new mind movie. She can now tap into a powerful visualization, being the leader in her field. Toni now knows how to remain focused on her current goals, shutting out all negative, distracting thoughts. Her focus lasers in on her goals, dismissing things which would previously cause her to question her abilities. After one session her confidence improved significantly. It was easy.

Activity: Consider your goals now. Develop two lists. One for all the reasons you ought to be taking action now and another for all the reasons you feel resistance. Are there more benefits to taking action now than avoiding action? For the reasons you are resisting, see if you can figure out why you feel resistance. Where did that come from? What is the belief behind it? Now see if you can create a new belief which is more appropriate for your life today. As you clear the resisting beliefs, taking action will become easier.

Beliefs are not always based on logic

What if I told you your life was like a movie? And the person standing next to you right now is viewing a very different movie. The way you experience anything and everything comes from your perception.

Your experiences, the meaning you gave them and the beliefs you shaped around those experiences create the lens in your life. Your lens is your unique way of perceiving the world. Your way of being.

The power of your story

History is a story. We all have one. Your point of view is the foundation of your history. No two histories are the same. Each is as unique as a fingerprint.

One of my clients, Toni, is preparing to grow her business. We were talking about her childhood, being heavy and awkward. The neighborhood kids would get together and play kickball in the field, including her sister.

Toni admits she was usually one of the last kids picked for the teams. Nobody wanted her on their team because her size slowed her down. They always teased her, chanting a made-up sing-song rhyme. Instead of defending her, her sister would join in the song.

Being one of the younger kids in the gang, Toni endured this for a long, long time. When you hear something repeatedly, you begin to believe it. Today, Toni admits she does not like being the center of attention. She would rather hide. Years of teasing eroded her confidence.

The beliefs you have feel true. Beliefs, however, are not always based upon logic. They are creations of your experience, how you interpreted an event and the story you told around it in order to make sense for you.

Many of our beliefs were formulated at a young age, prior to age 7. This is an important fact. Before age 7 you are unable to distinguish between reality and fiction. Remember when you believed in the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus? Many of your beliefs were created in those years. Then they get tucked away.

Do you have a vision but feel like success would be a high price to pay? You realize you are holding yourself back from reaching your goal. What if your concerns were erased? Have the leaves been changing by you? Right outside my bedroom window is a maple tree and the leaves are bright orange. It is breathtaking. Fall is in full swing; the seasons are in transition.

Over the past several years, I have continued to transition as well. There is always something new going on. Each step I take is one step closer to my BIG vision.

Well, I am about to take a leap in my business. If you have been following me for awhile, you know about my love for rowing. Becoming a competitive rower in my 40’s has significantly impacted my life.

Now is the time to take one more step into the world of athletes. As of November, I am fully transitioning to a new focus, The Inner Game for Winning Athletes. My clients include three levels of elite and professional athletes, heading toward state or nationals events, world games or Olympics competitions, or professional sports. My special interest is particularly athletes currently in a slump or returning to play after an injury.

There already has been a lot of interest from mom’s about their high school teens improving focus to increase the chances of receiving scholarship money or ending up in state championships.

Recently I have begun working with an athlete preparing for the 2012 Olympic Trials. I am flying to San Diego for a half-day session this week, to ensure a winning mindset while training and during competitions.

The format for my blog posts will change. It is going to have a one-minute tip on mindset and focus for improved performance instead of an article. Business and sports has many similarities; both require a winning mindset for success.
